Design Coordination Rate (DCR) is an AโG grade for design coordination quality, inspired by BER energy labels.
It helps BIM managers, PMs and clients quickly understand design coordination risk at a glance.
Poor coordination = more rework, RFIs, claims and delays. Good coordination reduces risk and cost.
This prototype uses manual user input only. In the future, we could receive files directly from Navisworks, Solibri or other coordination software, with automatic clash and building classifications.
Follow these steps to get your Design Coordination Rate:
The DCR is calculated using weighted clashes, building size/type modifiers and a base AโG threshold scale.
Weighted Clashes = (High ร 1.0) + (Medium ร 0.5) + (Low ร 0.2)
Adjusted Value = Weighted Clashes ร Size Modifier ร Type Modifier
Grade = AโG based on Adjusted Value thresholds
| Priority | Weight |
|---|---|
| HIGH | 1.0 |
| MEDIUM | 0.5 |
| LOW | 0.2 |
| Size | Area | Mod |
|---|---|---|
| Small | < 6,000 mยฒ | 2.0 |
| Medium | 6โ30k mยฒ | 1.0 |
| Large | > 30,000 mยฒ | 0.5 |
| Type | Mod |
|---|---|
| Residential | 1.3 |
| Commercial | 1.0 |
| Industrial | 0.5 |
| Healthcare | 0.5 |
| Grade | Range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| A | 0โ50 | Excellent coordination |
| B | 51โ100 | Good coordination |
| C | 101โ200 | Moderate risk |
| D | 201โ350 | Emerging issues |
| E | 351โ550 | Significant issues |
| F | 551โ750 | Severe pressure |
| G | >750 | Critical risk |
The DCR idea grew from LinkedIn discussions. You can explore the original posts here:
Early feedback and ideas came from members of the BIM community, including: Andrei De Sรก, Ralph Montague, Davitt Lamon, Bianca Fachin, Omar Alomair, Ed Trotter, and many others who joined the discussion.
If you'd like to contribute, test DCR on your projects or suggest improvements, you're very welcome โ this project grows through community input.
